A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP
The following is a typical day at our drama fun camp. (Please note, that activities are subject to change.)
8:30-9:30 – Optional early drop off. This is an optional section of camp that allows parents to drop their kids off earlier than the regular 9:30 drop off time. Crafts and games are played during this period.
9:30-10am – Group warm-up. The entire camp gets together to do vocal tongue twisters, physical stretches, energy exercises. This gives a wonderful cohesiveness to the camp. Each camper is assigned an individual counselor, and this is the wonderful way for all of the campers and counselors to be involved in one project.
10-11:30am – Creative Drama campers work on story time. Each and every campers is put to the creative hilt whether using the most of his/her talents while at the same time learning about teamwork. Using acting, improvisation and singing.
For our Acting for the Stage group we create an entire 15-20 minute production from scratch. Our campers write the script and then improvise the story while building minimal props and costumes for this adventure. Using character building exercises we create our story.
11:30-12:15 - Lunch
12:15 – 1 – Vocal work. Each group works with an accomplished musician/singer to create a song, a soundtrack, or atmosphere for their final themed performance.
1-1:15 – Break
1:15-2:00 – Scene work. We specify this hour with creative character building. How doe we build a character? How does this character walk, talk? How old is this character. Using the elements of what we observe, what we know, and what we creative, each and every camper creates a minimum of one fully realized character through our development process. Costume construction. Campers create, design and build their own costumes for their culminating performance.
2-2:15 – Break
2:15-3:00 – Music and song creation and improvisation. Typically, we will put two or more classes together and do a series of character building exercises. Mixes the class gives the students a different perspective through different counselor’s perception of learning. Working with our musician-teaching artist, our young people create a song that they will work into their culminating event. We learn the rules of improvisation. During this time we do Themed Work. We come full circle and finish our scene work specifically geared towards the Friday show and that week’s theme.
3:00-3:30 – Cool Down. As a camp we do a series of cool down exercise, much as we did in the beginning of the day.
3:30-5:30 – After camp activities. This is an optional element of camp, that gives parents the flexibility. Light games and general improvisation are impressed upon our campers.
Friday Footlights! Each Friday at 2pm, we present our culminating performance based on that week’s themes. All parents and friends are invited to attend the Friday Footlights performance for free! This takes place in the main stage theatre at North Coast Repertory Theatre.
Themes- Each week we theme our camp. On the first Monday of each week, the counselors and all of the campers get to choose a theme for the week. This theme is incorporated into their improvisation, singing, creative exercises, and their culminating project. Past themes have included Greek Week, Hawaiian Week, Hollywood Week, Western Week, California Week, Animal Week, Comic Book Week, Science Fiction Week.
All fees are non-refundable once camp has begun.
