Creative Writing

This workshop will explore the creative side of writing. Whether it’s a play, a short story, or a poem, learn the basic fundamentals of creating characters and dialogue. Through writing exercises and games students learn to visualize characters, settings, and imagery, all the while using their imagination. Technical Theatre Workshop

This hands-on workshop will explore the behind the scenes look at the theatre world. In introductory terms we learn what a lighting plot does? How does the sound work? How are costumes made? Musical Theatre

This workshop focuses on the understanding and implementation of elemental techniques in regards to the actor's voice, body, speech and music on stage. Stage Combat

Learn how to tumble, roll, slap, punch, and duel with a sword (not metal – plastic or wood). This course also explores hand to hand combat, and flat out physical comedy, all while using safe staging techniques. While performing, one should never be injured or do anything that is unsafe. Learn how to make it appears as though you are under duress while you have complete control over your body and its movements. This class is designed to teach actors objectivity and how to use the practical techniques of stage violence to tell an interesting and compelling story. (Plus, it’s a lot of fun!) Shakespeare for Young People

“Speak the speech, I pray you, as I pronounced it to you, trippingly on the tongue.” Hamlet, Act II, Scene 2. Using scenes, monologues and poems, from Shakespeare students learn how to interpret Shakespeare’s text and verse. What is he saying? What does this mean? How do I translate that on stage? Special Summer Workshop!
Summer Improvisation & Sketch Comedy
June 16 - 18, 2010
3:45pm to 5:45pm
Final Performance: June 19 @ 5pm
Ages: 11 to 17
Teacher: Matt Thompson
Fee: $200 (including handling fee)
This 3 day intensive comedy session explores the fine art of comedy. This three-day workshop is designed to develop performance and creative skills. Students learn the skills of reacting to other actors in spontaneous, unrehearsed scenes using conflict, contrast, physical positions, and props. We will also explore character building and comprehend the importance of improvisation for developing acting skills. A wide variety of exercises, warm ups and games will be used to build creativity, confidence, cooperation, and character. Sketch comedy will also be covered with an emphasis on comedic character development and writing skills. For information on our refund policy, please click here.
This special workshop will culminate in a fully staged Improvisation Show on June 19th, 2010, @ 5pm.
