Winner of the 2014 Tony for Best Musical, A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER is an endlessly entertaining foray into a charming man’s relentless quest for a bountiful inheritance that will change his life forever. This comedic musical story about ambition, love, family, and intricate murder plots will have you gasping with laughter and reveling in its lively, imaginative score. Dazzling, delightful, and absolutely unforgettable, this merry musical is guaranteed to lift your spirits.
This production is made possible in part by the generous support of our lead production sponsor Mary Ann Whittier-Johansen.
This musical is smart, naughty and studded with unexpected surprises in a very well-made production at North Coast Rep. Director Noelle Marion keeps the laughs flowing in this lilting production, which is well-cast, nicely sung and stunningly costumed by Elisa Benzoni. Marion crafts wildly comic characters onstage, but she also grounds them enough in reality to make the audience care about them, even at their worst.
- The San Diego Union-Tribune
Nicholas Mongiardo-Cooper puts the “tour” in “tour de force,” moving through his portrayals of various aristocratic asses with ease, aplomb, and no small degree of amusement
- San Diego Reader
With a top-notch ensemble, elegant design, and enough charm to keep the body count breezy, this production hits its mark. There’s more than enough wit, vocal firepower, and theatrical flair to ensure audiences die laughing.
- Stage and Cinema
Directed with wit by Noelle Marion, the show combines elegance, flair, and a healthy dose of farce to serve up a frothy Edwardian romp with a high body count and even higher comic timing. Marion keeps the mayhem light, the pacing brisk, and the comedy high. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, you’ll question your own ethics for rooting so hard for a guy with eight murders to his name.
