By: Bill Irwin & Mark O'Donnell
Directed by: Christopher Williams
This high-energy comedy follows Scapin, the world’s greatest con artist, as he manipulates, schemes, and straight-up lies his way through an impossible situation, always one step ahead and turning every problem into a hilarious new opportunity. When two young lovers find themselves up against stubborn, money-minded fathers, Scapin jumps into action with outrageous tricks, bold lies, and comic chaos at every turn. A fresh, modern take on Molière’s beloved farce is packed with mischief, surprises, and nonstop laughs.
Scapin runs 100 minutes, with one intermission.

- Jenni Prisk, Reviewer

The comic banter among the players and the players breaking the fourth wall to tickle audience members in the front row creates a constant eruption of laughter throughout the play. This is theater in its most relaxing and fun form.
- San Diego Story

Director Chris Williams committed wholeheartedly to the wacky and silly “Scapin” script, and he leveraged the audience’s engagement with some very funny bits. North Coast Rep’s hardcore farce fans, and there are many, this show will entertain.
- The San Diego Union-Tribune

Paul Slade Smith (Scapin), a playwright in his own right, isn’t the only character who stands out, although he is wonderful, director Christopher Williams is blessed with a bevvy of heavy weights including artistic director Davis Ellenstein who plays Geronte, Octaves father and James Newcomb who is Argente, Leanders father. Omri Schein is Sylvestre, the mute, who is pee in pants funny, and David McBean, dressed like Elton John is on the (ahem player piano.)
- Carol Davis, Critic

Check your need for deep meaning in the lobby and simply enjoy the revelry. Exuberant performances, gleeful silliness, and cleverly witty material make this adaptation a thoroughly entertaining evening.
- Stage and Cinema

It’s a wild ride, with a sizzling cast and fine direction that pays homage to the original story and sends the need of the laugh meter off the scale.
